Our client is a market-leading supplier of modular buildings across the UK and Europe. In their procurement of the groundworks and foundations package, our client wanted to improve tender process efficiency and mitigate the risk of scope gaps, etc, so we were commissioned to prepare a bill
of quantities.
Our approach
We discussed the package with the project team to define the scope of this package and understand the scope split at construction interfaces. The drawings were then reviewed in detail, and we issued queries to our client with more specific questions about the scope and interfaces.
Once the scope was suitably defined, we prepared the BoQ template using Vector software and set SMM7 as the standard form of measurement, which was our client’s preference. The measurement of the scope was performed using Bluebeam so that quantities could be checked and, if there were any future queries, the information could be quickly accessed to clarify any issues.
In our measurement work, we identified areas where we considered there were design development/scope gap risks and opportunities for value engineering. These issues were scheduled as a shopping list for our client to review and decide whether to adopt our suggestions.
The outcome
We delivered a high-quality bill of quantities to our client, which was referenced to supporting documents. The tendering subcontractors were issued with that pack of information to make their initial navigation of the documents more efficient. Our client used the priced bills of quantities to perform an efficient evaluation of the tender returns.
