Our client develops, delivers, and operates sustainable energy services and solutions for its public sector clients who secure funding from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS). Their business model was in transition following its acquisition by an international, market-leading energy services company, and its repositioning from a business that predominantly offered design services to one that would perform the design and construction of a PSDS scheme.
A pallet of solutions
Our client was facing several challenges across its portfolio of projects with each requiring a tailored solution.
We worked with our client to understand the nature of these challenges and put forward solutions. Through this process we supported our client with the following services over a 12-month period:
- A strategic review of their operating model and its commercial function performance, which concluded with the implementation of a bespoke commercial operating manual.
- A restructure of the project financial reporting process to improve the type, flow, and quality of information from projects through to our client finance team, and then on to its parent company.
- The commercial management of a circa £15m healthcare project which had an extension of time and £3m of variation recovery to resolve with the public sector client and its professional advisors.
- The development and implementation of a commercial recovery plan on a circa £20m healthcare project where there was misalignment between scope and price which presented a risk to the margin position in the business accounts.
- The provision of additional procurement capacity during a constrained procurement period on a circa £50m healthcare project.
- Supporting the client with the resolution of various contractual and technical issues within its legacy portfolio.
Transition planning
Our support in this period enabled our client to stabilise its financial performance and focus on the permanent recruitment of a high-quality commercial team. We have worked with the incoming commercial director to enact a smooth transition plan and continue to provide ongoing quantity surveying services to our client.
